Below are two examples of recent products developed to address specific LDPE equipment issues communicated to us by our customers.
High Flow Springless Check Valve for Initiator Pumps
Traditional initiator pump check valve designs have been characterized by significant pressure drop across the inlet checks. This pressure drop generally requires about 50 PSI of “suction pressure” to prevent cavitation of the pump with typical initiator fluids. In recent years, LDPE process changes have led to the use of initiator fluids with significantly higher vapor pressure. In order to keep the process fluids in the liquid phase, high suction pressures and cooling jackets have been utilized. Even with these actions there have still been concerns about potential pump cavitation while operating in high flow rate conditions.
To address these concerns a new KMT McCartney initiator check valve design has been developed to dramatically reduce the pressure drop across the valve.

- High flow ball cage design
- Lightweight ceramic check balls
- All stainless steel components (except check balls)
- Ball return springs not required
- Will run in either horizontal or vertical orientation
- Direct replacement for previous KMT McCartney designs (no piping modifications required)

Premium HP Needle Valve Development
Manual HP needle valves are standard equipment found in many process piping locations. In critical areas, a valve failure will require shutdown of the reaction to make a repair resulting in significant loss of production. KMT has applied design technology from our 100,000 PSI “PRO” series valves to offer a premium packing option for our 66,000 PSI needle valves. The packing design in this valve utilizes chevron shaped rings that increase the number of sealing surfaces and provide a self energizing effect to extend the service life of the valve beyond that of valves with traditional “disc” type packing. This packing option, designated as “-03” is available in any 66,000 PSI valve configuration shown in the KMT Precision System Components (PSC) catalog.

KMT McCartney Phase Flow Pump Visualization
The KMT McCartney Phase Flow Pump Visualization allows the customer, to receive important information of the pump status in real time using an external Computer or Laptop. One easy plug-in attachment from the Computer to the Motion Controller relays a clear & concise view of the important program values in real time. This vital tool will help you save money and down time if there are any system problems, and because trouble shooting is much faster, it also saves time after maintenance work when checking the calibrations and signals before you go back to production.
This LDPE pump visualization is available for all KMT PF-1 Plus Phase Flow Pumps that utilize the M3000 MSC (Moog Servo Controller). To add this feature to 1st generation PF-1 pumps, an Electrical Control Panel Upgrade is available that includes the new M3000 MSC.
